The Care Closet

I started my Care Closet so that I can grab little items to give out to our kiddos living at the home here on campus, that way they can always feel like they’ve got someone in their corner cheering for them!

Biggest

Needs

My Care Closet is a collection of small items like: toys, games, crayons, clothes, deodorant, chapstick, nail polish, hair oil, bubbles, etc.

These are the situations in which I pull from the Care Closet the most, click to read about how we use the items here on campus + in the community

  • We have a couple sweet kiddos that end up in the hospital a lot, and then of course the occasional unplanned surgery or accident, so another situation that we use the care closet frequently is to make a little care package for those guys to help comfort them while they are there!

Most recently, we had a couple kids have to quarantine away from the others to prevent the spread of illness - a week is a long time to e away from friends and not be able to play with your toys! I grabbed some coloring pages, supplies, activity books, and a 1000-piece puzzle to try to help keep everyone entertained!

  • I grab from the Care Closet for on campus needs pretty often - sometimes it’s because someone needs a bandage for a scraped knee or hand, and sometimes thy need hair oil to get gum out of their hair! I also will pull from the closet when a child that doesn’t have a sponsor (or doesn’t get a gift often) needs to feel like they have someone in their corner!

  • When I go with the social department to do home visits, I try to pack items for the kids that we are visiting, as well as a few small things for their neighbors or siblings! Bubbles are usually a big hit!

  • Welcome to Campus!

Every year we have around 10 new kids that come to live here on campus. I pull from the care closet so that they can get a little welcome package to make moving away from their grown-ups (guardians) just a little easier.

Right now the Care Closet is made up of a couple shelves, some cabinet space, and this over the door shoe organizer!
