Books for
Dorm Libraries
Here in the Creative Corner, we believe in the transformative power of books to inspire, educate, and uplift. Our “Books for the Dorm Libraries” list is dedicated to providing a carefully curated selection of literature for the kiddos living here on campus!
These books are chosen to foster a love of reading, support academic growth, and offer comfort and companionship for these children as they grow and learn!
The
Books
When I made the list for the different books that I wanted to add for the dorm libraries, I tried to find books for grades pre-k to 6th grade level in these categories:
-
In 2023, when i first started, i was talking with some of the kids and realized that some of my 6th graders hadn't realized that there was water/an ocean between Africa and the US, so one of my priorities was gathering books on the world, animals, history, and different cultures!
-
I loved adding books like The Jelly Donut Difference, Have You Filled A Bucket Today, and The Boy With Big, Big Feelings to my list for the book shelves!
Books that talk about emotions and learning help me develop the kids' vocabulary when it comes to talking about struggles that they are facing!
-
We have medical teams come every few weeks and the kids love to interact with them! I wanted to collect some different books that talked about doctors and health so that the kids would be able to make those connections when trying to think of things to say to the team!
-
I have a lot of of kids that love dragons, unicorns, and all kinds of stories! I've made sure to bring some books that are just fun to read so that my readers can go on many adventures when they have free time!
